Maxima plot error on mac OSX

If you get the error message “unknown or ambiguous terminal type; type just 'set terminal' for a list” when using wxplot2d in Maxima:

Uncheck “Use cairo to improve plot quality.” is unchecked in the Options tab of wxMaxima preferences dialog.
